The Hungarian Acacia/Black Locust Honey
In ordinary language the acacia is really called Black Locust, the bees collect the acacia honey from the black locust tree's flowers. In fact, the black locust is tropical-subtropical plant. In hungarian we call it like 'acacia' and it will appear further like this.
All over the world the best known hungarian honey of all types is the acacia honey. It has special quality and our 'Hungaricum' is requested in abroad as well. All over Europe we have the most coherent acacia tree forests, the one fifth part of the domestic forest stand is acacia. Moreover, the biggest part of it is pure stand acacia forest.
In these forests the beekeepers can produce pure honey. The acacia honey contains much fruit sugar thus, it remains liquid for long time. The acacia honey has disinfectant effect and it's recommended against cough.

About the Acacia (Black Locust) Tree
The black locust (in ordinary language acacia) was imported to Hungary to bind the sand. In some regions acacia found its second home, which shows a striking vitality and it has created a number of variations over a relatively short period of time.
The Hungarian acacia has gained the recognition, because here is the largest acacia tree stock so far all over Europe.
While it appears in sparse parks in its homeland (North America), it forms coherent forests in Hungary. The largest acacia forests can be found in the Nyírség, near Lake Balaton and on Mezőföld.
The properties of the acacia honey
The colour of the acacia honey is crystal-clean, light yellow or has greenish shade some times in the year. It has acacia flower scent. The flavour without taint makes this honey individual, also we can feel it sweeter than the others but its acidity is lower. It's rich in fruit sugar thus, it crystallizes slowly so it can keep its consistence for 1-2 years. The acacia honey is the one of the world's three lowest crystallizing honey. Besides its good sweeten facility that's why it is so requested honey all over the world market.
The effects of the acacia honey
The acacia honey has great general anti-bacterial effect, besides that it's detoxifying and soothing cough. It could be useful against gastric hyperacidity. It has liver regenerative effect thanks to the fruit sugar content in the acacia honey. The muscle relaxant facility is also known during sports.
People use acacia honey for baking because of its mild flavour but it can be eaten by itself, even honeyed brandy and honeyed wine or mead is made with it as well.
